Regarding Charlie's card embedded in the Opera House rocks:
I went there today after watching a movie with Busu. While on the way back,
I saw it was low tide and climbed down at the 6th pole from the Opera House.
I searched and searched; looked through ever gap, every hole and every rock -
there was nothing. It's gone Charlie! GONE!!! But fear not, I've planted a new
card: "Alexandru Busu Commonwealth Bank". It's at the 6th pole, 3 gaps right
of the huge hole. We shall visit it soon.

More movies:
15 - Travelling Birds - 7.5/10
Fantastic camera shots, exotic locations and haunting music - if you don't mind
watching a documentary for $10.50. Currently showing at Dendy.

16 - My Sassy Girlfriend - 7.0/10
Cliched but highly enjoyable, "wanna die?"

thank you. i've always known that i'm fantastic.

charlie performing a survey?
why does that sound so sinister?

FANTASTIC JOHN!

Agreed.

Sure, I have days off. For me to have days off with 25 hours a week, I require...well, genius maths, 6 hours straight every day for four days. OOh I wish my timetable allowed that one!

Charlie, are you performing another Psychology survey again?
In that case, analyse this, Billy Crystal: I answer questions with questions!
Fighting fire with fire, stubborn boy.

i would start my life over.

the problem with your analogy marc, is that with subjects that you failed, you have a fair idea of the cirriculum and the topics covered; with slight changes of course. whereas in life, even what are considered small decisions can have unforseeable consequences later in life. that is what makes life all the more invigorating, because it is dynamic, unpredictable and a bitch at the same time.

choosing to start my life over does not eliminate the unpredictability factor, despite what you may think. it allows us to explore the possibilities that could have been if we had made decisions or actions dissimilar to once we have already made.
that is not to say if presented with the same circumstances as we have in the past, we would not necessarily make the same choices or mistakes.

Stop your bitching Darren. Thats so harsh to Jono :P

Why would I want to start my life over? I haven't reached puberty yet.

Its like redoing subjects that you failed. It has no flavour and even if you managed to get the best of it, it still won't be as satisfying if you did it the first time.

Why did I have to equate it to academic studies...

How many of you would, if you had the chance and the ability to, give up your current life and start it over?

Lousy DSS, made me lose my day off, and just for a lecture in the MIDDLE of the day, so I cant really do anything (if I wanted to) on that day.

At least I still have Wednesdays off, not that anyone else does..

Its going to be 2 years and I've been going to uni every weekday (except for this session).. While these other Commerce/Seng peoples......

Oh yeah, have you had any days off Jono?

10cc stat!

inject life.

Hey that's funny yi, I was just about to say this as I read your professionally-written, eloquently-expressed email to a [senior?] lecturer:

Are you always so colloquial and full of BS in your emails? ^^

1. "Ummm.."
2. "cause..."
3. "??"
4. ":D", ":)", ">:)"
5. Points 5 and 7 are the same in your email
6. "WAY"
and best of all,
7. "In particular, I have found that the specific request that I have now, is if I may be considered for a
special case of some sort and grant me permission to..."

Seems like quite a funny email to me.
:)

jono, i agree with butters... one of those cheesy forward e-mails.. :P
arh!!! can't get into benny's new page. seems like no Star for me. :(

=====================================================================
e-mail i sent Ken Robinson asking for permission to change my Free Elective into a level 3 elective.
=====================================================================

Ummm.. I went to see you this morning, as people said, you weren't there.
Went again this afternoon. Waited until Peter Ho finished.. but another guy
got your attention. I thought I won't waste all my friends' times so I
decided
to see you tomorrow if I may.

Again, I want to see you about my SENG degree. In particular, I have found
that the specific request that I have now, is if I may be considered for a
special case of some sort and grant me permission to do COMP3121 as
the Free-Elective for year 2.

Reasons for asking:
1. WAY too many electives that I am so interested in.
2. Want to use my COMP2711 knowledge as soon as possible before it
evaporates
into the horizon and can't be dug up for COMP3121 in session 2, 2004.
3. WAY too many electives that I am so interested in.
4. Want to take OS as an elective. For a challenge and to advance my
understanding
in .. obviously OS. :D But that limits me to 2 other COMP3XXX electives...
So I might
have to drop the challenge if I can't do 5 COMP3XXX electives...
5. WAY too many electives that I am so interested in.
6. Richard Buckland teaches in this session.
7. WAY too many electives that I am so interested in.
8. I am doing Critical Thinking and Brave New World for my geneds.. isn't
that
diverse enough?? :P (That also means I have freed my timeslot for Algorithms
on
Monday nights.. cause I was thinking of doing Astronomy.) Oh and I did
PHIL1008
as my first year Free-Elective.
9. WAY too many electives that I am so interested in.
10. I don't want to do PHIL2519 as my second year elective... but I might
if I can't do Algorithms... and no, I am NOT going to do Accounting 1A..
definitely not.

So there you go. 10 reasons why I should be given special treatment to do
Algorithms (COMP3121) as my Free-Elective for year 2.

Well, this actually started life as a request for an appointment with you
tomorrow
sometime.. so it'll end life as a request for an appointment with you
tomorrow
sometime. :) Would you be able to make some time available for an
appointment
tomorrow Tuesday 29th of July? Hmm.. I am free 9am till 11am, then 1 hour
lecture
with you, then free again 12pm till 3pm. Would you be able to find some free
time
anywhere inbetween?

Uhmm.. I guess if I don't receive a reply, then I'll assume you haven't had
the chance
to read my e-mail and I'll assult your door on random intervals during the
day.. or maybe
try to catch you after our SENG2020 lecture. >:)

Anyway, looking forward to a reply!

Have a nice day.

Regards,

Yi Huang

==============
And this is his reply
==============

Hi Yi,

You said there were 10 reasons, but there were really only 2.

Yes, you can do COMP3121 for your free elective.

Cheers,

Ken

um benny, i couldn't find the replays on ur page,

but i like the new look ...
very ... professional

Benny's new? look

i'm sure everyone will find it a refreshing change from our usual boring design

That reminded me of a game we played in Aiesec.
List 5 of your most important values in your life-eg family, friends, freedom, creativity, status, money, etc etc
then, slowly, one by one, you cross out 4 of them, leaving what's really really important. That's your life goal.

Nice story. Sounds like something from one of them cheesy chain emails.

I will now grind my golf balls into sand. What if the class said "No" each time he asked if it was full?

Monday, July 28, 2003

Was your philosophy as good as this Yi?

A professor stood before his Philosophy 101 class and had some items in
front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of
course, the sand filled up everything else. He then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous, “yes”.

The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and proceeded to pour the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling
the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - - your family, your partner, your health, your children, your friends, your favorite passions - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else - the small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out dancing. Play another 18. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal."

"Take care of the golf balls first - - the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers."

You wouldn't have a clue Marc. Butters smile because the price of Margarine falls.

Sunday, July 27, 2003

I'm smiling, therefore I know your true intentions Charlie >:)

Haha John, all interpretations are subjective, but the person doing the smiling knows the true intentions.

Bennie, of course it doesn't matter, you probably had a b'day party two days after without inviting us.

lol
it wasn't my birthday on boating day...
It was my birthday 2 days after but meh it doesn't matter charlie....

Saturday, July 26, 2003

shhh kwong. no one has to know.
and don't force me to dig up incriminating materials of you too.

double posting is a capital crime in some states charlie.

i don't smile for cameras any more than i smile for bird excrements that land on my car.
the smile people give when they want to kill you are evil grins. whereas the smile i see in that photo is one of pure enjoyment.

Possum that stole our bread and escaped to the refuge of a tree (Bobbin Head BBQ with Epping friends):

Johno, 100% of statistics that come out of my mouth is true. Nothing is absolute, except what I say.

Butters, this is not injecting a breath of life into this blog, this is taking it away.
Haha, Seinfield.
Nicely exposed shots, you captured the glare of the midday sun. That 'backseat' shot could be an album cover, not that john and johno would actually sing.

John, that was a conventional 'smile for the camera'. Haven't you seen people smile at you even when they want to kill you? If you haven't, look at that photo again.

Bennie, had I known it was your birthday on that boating day, I would rush onto that boat. Make sure you invite me to your 21st.

Oh and Yi, most of the soccer shots you took at Roseville didn't turn out, all blurred. So much for 400 ISO and a tripod. But luckily those flash shots of wei ming and john turned out eyable (don't bother checking, it's not in the dictionary).

Friday, July 25, 2003

Hmmm John... I believe there are a few incriminating fotos of you as well =)

Nice photos marc.

Synonym for happy?

Jono and Kwong's bday

Its about 6.5mb

you look quite happy in that photo charlie.

Oh, yeah, I can get CSE to host Jono Bday pix. Thanks for the reminder :D

I know Darren will do better next session.

Lumoi nor Busu has been posting.

My CSE account has been boosted to 20MB, w00t!

DSS seemed not to have such a high fail rate as once thought. It was only ~33% compared to 50% that I've been told before...

Jono, its not a "man-bra". Its called a bro.

Think of it this way, Charlie...you always complained about the blog being lifeless. You now have an opportunity to breathe back the life into it - using your unconventional methods.

"I did not have sexual relations with that man" - Charlie Zhang 2003

Oh yeah. Some of the holiday photos are up for viewing:

Benny's Boating Bday ~1.5mb
Evatt Park ~3.5mb

Jono's Bday pix were 6mb so I couldn't fit them onto my measly web account.

haha I believe you John

CHARLIE LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
"90 percent of those who failed are Asians."
Where did that statistic come from?
Isn't it true that 98% of statistics are incorrect? Chew on that for a while...
That orange haired bloke looks indecent.

Darren, I hope you pick up your [once-great, DN-average] act a little bit next semester, and I hope next semester you double that WAM. Perhaps combined with Psychology.
:)

Meanwhile, for some reason I'm wondering why Lumoi hasn't posted in a while, or is my memory failing me. . .

Butters, I was worried because the subject PSY237 has 40% failure rate. This figure may not mean anything but what does mean something is that 90 percent of those who failed are Asians. That credit score was gained at the cost of many, including HDs in other subjects, and quality star time.

Interesting it may seem John, but it would not tarnish my reputation. Hope you didn't forget that I was forced by 10 people that night, 7 of which are friends I initially deemed trustworthy. Though there were no sign of me repelling against such imposition in that photo, those who know me should understand that I did not have sex with that man.

Ignorance is bliss, but curiosity is the essence of learning, and surviving.

Omg, Darren, may I suggest that you transfer to a Psychology degree?

Hmm, long time no blog for me..

I find it only fitting to provide these as others have done before..

I did best in my elective... just great.

Is charlie wearing some sort of man-bra? Or some pro-wrestling vest? Get the E out!

Hmm, maybe I don't want to see it afterall...

are you sure about that?

Funky, they increased my mark for MECH1120 Design and the Engineering Profession (i.e. pasta bridge project subject) from 85 to 87, sweet.

Apparently there was some big error with half the marks for the subject, and they just got fixed up.

87 will do me just fine.
:)

Congratulations on the results Charlie! What the hell were you worried about in the first place?

Oh yeah?

Bring it on!

lets just say you do not want to cross me charlie.

I'm an innocent and pure man. Any attempt to tarnish my reputation is defamation and I can sue you for that, not to mention that those so-called evidence are fictitious and cannot bypass the wise eyes of you wonderful bloggers.

an e-mail from Ken Robinson, the coordinator for Soft Eng:

I've been getting some questions along the lines of:

Can I assume that the Wednesday afternoon lecture slot will not be
used, similarly to SENG2010?

The answer is No.

We will certainly meet during that time slot in the first week, and
there will be some lectures in that Wednesday time slot, perhaps 4 or
5. Also, I will assume that the slot is free to use for general
problem discussion sessions.

I understand that there are some clashes between that slot and other
courses, notable COMP3121 Algorithms, unfortunately.

I would advise that you don't let the clash stop you from taking the
other course. But, you are warned that there is a clash and you will
have to deal with it in some way. Provided you are happy with that
then go ahead. Of course, you will need permission to override the
clash. Write to me.

:(
dammit.

i have, in my hand, certain incriminating materials that will very likely put a dent in the reputation of a certain individual.

True dat. Only fobs can cook real food even if it does contain carcinogens and the widest selection of bacteria.

Plus the haggardness makes you more "experienced"

It was a family BBQ. But if giraffes and butter wants to join the fray, you are more than welcome to suggest a time and place. Real fob eh? Only they can cook.

Hmm...I doubt you would be in any condition to go even if James did invite us - I can see no restrooms in the background :P

I love my new portable Weber!

I said what you wanted to hear
And what I wanted to say
So I will take it back.
Are all the dishes intact?
Let them be, broken. Broken.
Its easy to be easy and free
When It doesn't mean anything.
You remain selfless cold and composed.
...

Come on baby,
Now throw me a right to the chin.
Don't just stare like you never cared
I know you did.
But you just smile
Like a bank teller
Politely telling me
"Have a nice life"

Come on baby,
Now throw me a right to the chin.
Just one sign to show me
That you give a shit.
But you just smile politely
And I grow weaker...

- Selfless Cold and Composed by Ben Folds Five

That reminds me of our Accounting lecture Samantha Sin, who pronounce motor vehicle 'motor ve-hea-cle'. And for some reason she often uses that as an example.

LOL you just don't hold back do you James?

Thats one more thing to look forward to after ending a semester of Computing subject.

James, how did you come across that piece of information?
Do you know who wrote that, apart from "CSE"?

CSE Feedback on CS2021 - DSS:
The first part of DSS was very interesting and well taught by Sri Parameswaran. The second part on VHDL and assembly were also interesting and useful. However, Annie Guo's teaching was not only uninspirational but totally incomprehensible. Just randomly speaking to people in the lecture, the consensus was a clear one: no one understands what she's saying. I'm sure she's had a great academic career but having an extremely limited level of spoken English cripples her ability to convey those ideas.

hi jing, thanks for the cheery email. Yes i'll be teaching 3121
and 3120. 3120 is 3121 with one missing lecture where we
do the fun stuff each week so you might want to think

Advice to Kwong
Do NOT watch Beyond Rangoon. Listen to the soundtrack and appreciated it.
Watch the movie and it'll spoil the soundtrack; POS script, POS dialogue, POS
story. A total waste of Zimmer's music.

Dear Jonathan,

I am writing to inform you of the outcome of your application for UNSW
International Exchange Program commencing Session 1, 2004. We were pleased
by the generally high calibre of applicants. This made our nomination
process quite difficult in some cases.

After careful consideration by the committee, I am pleased to inform you
that you have been nominated for exchange to Purdue University, USA.
Congratulations!

Charlie! It's not even johno! It's Jono!
haha

IONize (7:15 PM) :
?
Benny (7:15 PM) :
what's the LOL mean?
Does this mean it's a hoax?
IONize (7:16 PM) :
No, I'm going to take up Marc's suggestion and transfer to Saudi
Benny (7:16 PM) :
lol.
I'm lost now
so you can go to Saudi now though? XD

LOL aw, thats too bad. Hey, if Saudi Arabia is missing a student, then maybe u can transfer there. I hear Aerospace Engineering is their forte over there.

Dear Jonathan,

I am writing to inform you of the outcome of your application for UNSW
International Exchange Program commencing Session 1, 2004. We were pleased
by the generally high calibre of applicants. This made our nomination
process quite difficult in some cases. After careful consideration by the committee,
I regret to inform you that you have failed to qualify for exchange to Purdue University, USA.

Of the 32 people who applied from UNSW and hundreds around the world, you passed
the preliminary selection grading. This means you were in the top 4 percentile from your
university. The final round was selected among all those who passed the preliminary selection
around the world. This stage was particularly difficult as areas of expertise and personal
achievement played a major role in the final judgement. Although your case was very good,
it was narrowly rejected in favour of another distinguished student from Saudi Arabia.

We hope you will continue to persue your personal best and wish you the best of luck
in the future.

Brad Wittica

Lol, oops, you're better off known as johno and not jonathan, and if so, what's in a name?

I don't remember I ever gotten drunk before. Sorry but tomorrow I have some family business, might not have time to go shopping with you guys, I probably can get some drinks, but have you delegated who's getting what? we don't want doubling up.

haha well Charlie likes drinking, so he can get drinks?
Just a suggestion, we can all get it together. Or even just reuse some of Saturday's stuff lol

Pit fire steaks? haha

Hmm, ok. Get some of those pit fire steaks happening. The thin ones are good.

What kind of drinks? *Charlie* getting drinks? >:)

Xie xie ni Charlie, but I am sorely disappointed that:
1) After all these years, you still cannot spell my name, AND/OR
2) You have not even paid me the respect to correct any typographies in your post!

In other news, we will be shopping for the Tuesday BBQ on Monday (sounds logical, yes?). If you can come out with us post a message.
I suggest:
- James, Yi, Marc, me (whatever) get the food (flexible)
- KJ, Benny and Charlie get drinks

Mr James Wang, due to the current reality of the despicable digital camera renting market, how shall we deal with the establishment of the foundation of our Movie making career?

Mr Jonathon Lee, your achievement deserves my compliment "What a Bloody Nice Work!", oh and "GET YOUR ASS IN CTO".

Cock sucking, get it right!

Those felt tip pens came in handy afterall. Nah, I'm sure u deserved it ;)

AHAHA JONO good shit - BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
All that dick sucking and only 80?! I want to see a HD!!!
Visit that old man's office now!

AHHAHAAH WHEEEEEEEET JAMESSSSSSS
Complex Analysis S2 here we (i.e. you) comeeeeeee!!!

Ok I"m kind of surprised at this one...

Course MATH2029 Engineering Maths 2A
Provisional Mark 80
Provisional Grade DN

I am even happier for James than for me lol.
Well, it appears it truly is a case of "GG no re"

Course Provisional Mark
MATH2510 56 PS
MATH2859 51 PS

Sorry Yi, Benny - I won't be joining you fellas for Statistics again (2859).
And a big thanks to ION for my spectacular real analysis mark. I always
wondered if I should have picked up the subject after 2 weeks of missing
classes - but I'm glad I did.

how do you know that?

YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!

W00T! If I fail DSS, then that means the subject will have greater than 60% failure rate for a 2nd year subject!

Raikkonen's needs help! He needs more fans. GO JOHN!! Go to silverstone and cheer on!!

Wednesday, July 09, 2003

Yeah, you're going to the newsagency and you are going to pick up UAC Guide 2004, then fill in the green application and pay $33 - to me, then pay your UAC fee.

Tuesday, July 08, 2003

haha that is the second time in recent days that you have said "You're not going anywhere"

Oh but I am, but I am. Just you wait!

Hey I was browsing cse and they have Aerospace Engineering/Comp Sci.

Get your ass back into CSE Jono. You're not going anywhere

You could always ask around hehe. Who knows? You may find a group of other people wanting to use it, maybe u can then partition the cost?

Naive. Adjective. To believe that some organisation by the name of 'Sony' would rent a triple CCD miniDV camera for less than 50bucks a week.

Reality. Noun. Minimum renting period - 2 years.

So, who's down for chipping in for a 4000 buck video camera?

A little soon, but a reminder to people to organise their timetables for Semester 2 2003. If you've pretty much finalised it, just copy and paste it onto word and save it as a webpage and submit it to me and I'll add it to the Member Timetables link

Saturday, July 05, 2003

Haha Benny.. Shouldnt you have been studying instead of looking for something to post?

Although I do find it rather concerning that I seem to satisfy almost all the criteria for HCE..

Friday, July 04, 2003

.....reasonS?

Give me a reason, to hold on to what we've got.

.....

Where do you think you're going John? You're not going anywhere.

*Shock horror*?
I gather that asking "why" would be futile at this point, so let us hope that "soon" really is soon...

Uni marks? " something for me to procrastinate with... what a shame i wont' get to drive that porsche "

Thursday, July 03, 2003

lol, bennie you're not smart enough.

5 hours of intense thinking? Star could become the next major cause for HCE.

lol
good post benny.
though i am sorry to say you don't meet the prerequisites for HCE.. :P

Soon to be me...

Wednesday, July 02, 2003

Actually, we'll have to move it to the week after next week (i.e. sometime around 15th July or so), because John, Charlie and Eric have the AIESEC conference for the whole week next week.

Weiming will also be back (well, by tonight...actually his plane lands...in about 2 minutes...)

Interesting to note. Read the third last line on this page .

lol charlie
read the post about half a page down

what's happening next wednesday?

Tuesday, July 01, 2003

first kimi's GERMAN mercedes engine blew up while he was leading and setting the fastest lap times in the european gp held in GERMANY, then ralf schumacher who is a GERMAN with a bmw GERMAN engine won the race, while michael schumacher, another GERMAN, added another 3 points to his lead over kimi unfairly after the GERMAN marshalls helped this bloody GERMAN back onto the track.
gopfertami!

not to boast or anything, but i read something about those spray things in a car tuning magazine a couple of years ago.
i'm surprised that the news has just recently made such a big deal out of it.

LoL, very delete the post. How did you get access to sensitive information like that? You weren't in CTO at that time...

Jono's birthday coming up...I believe 7/11 is open 24 hours/7 days a week.

Down. Nice post John.

Oohh for those who didnt watch the 5oclock news, can someone buy me some of this?

Shhhh... nobody knows my birthday, lets keep it that way.

Ok these holidays are all mine.

First up. How does soccer at a park by a lakeside/seaside somewhere for a couple of hours in the morning, followed by a BBQ lunch + chatting for a couple of hours + cycling/blading after that?
A whole day out. Doesn't have to be soccer could be whatever (Frisbee lol)
Sounds typical, nothing flash bang exciting, but refreshing nevertheless.

I recommend next Wednesday, to coincide with Kwong and my 19th birthday.

What? you say you have commitments that day? TOO BADDDDDDDDD I want soccer.
Unless it's Kwong who's busy. In which case....TOO BADDDDDDD I want a BBQ (cooked by James + Yi?)
Unless the weather is bad. In which case...Shit...TOO BADDDDDDDDDDD I want to drive my car in the rain

What do you guys think?
I think we all deserve a good break, and I would like these three weeks to be as productive a break as possible.
No, that does not mean sitting at home starring/battlefielding 24/7.

I also want to go fishing or just hire a small motor boat on a lake these holidays.
Again what do you guys think? (notice the iterative water theme in my activity proposals)

Good luck with the rest of your exams if you haven't finished.

Another semester down, only ... 6 more to go? Thereabouts.
6 exams down, 0 to go as of today.

And next semester I have 25 hours! wow I'm motivated.

Fluid Mechanics B (3UoC)
Thermodynamics B (3UoC)
Engineering Maths 2B (3UoC)
Statistics SM (3UoC)
Chemistry 1ME (3UoC)
Electrical Engineering 1E (6UoC)
Mechanics of Solids 2A (3UoC)

Looks like I will be seeing even MORE of you guys next session!
Assuming I pass everything this session...ho hum.

Deserters will be shot!

A note to all those who reside in the channel CTO:
As of 000hrs 30th June 2003, mobilenet, along with mobilechat was declared MIA, and until they are discovered, their presence will no longer be available on the channel...

Over and out
